Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is the surgical removal of the tonsils.  It is performed for recurrent episodes of acute tonsillitis but also for symptoms related to obstruction. It is performed under general anesthesia and most often, it is scheduled on an outpatient procedure.  In the postoperative period, activity and diet restrictions must be followed as bleeding, although rare, can occur up to two weeks following the procedure.
