Tonsillitis

The tonsils are oval-shaped masses of lymph tissue located on both sides of the back of the throat. Tonsillitis is an infection with swelling of these glands. Symptoms include sore throat, fever, difficult or painfulness when swallowing, fatigue and ear pain. These symptoms usually last approximately 5-7 days. Treatment is with antibiotics as well as supportive care consisting of rest, fluids, and pain relievers such as Tylenol or Motrin/Advil. These will also aid in reduction of fever.
