Anal Dysplasia

Anal dysplasia is a pre-cancerous condition that occurs when there are abnormal changes in the lining of the anal canal. This results in a lesion or visible pattern of clustered abnormal cells appearing. These cells may then progress from low-grade lesions to high-grade lesions.

Anal warts in and around the anus are often associated with anal dysplasia. Anal dysplasia is most commonly linked to human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually-transmitted disease. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease.
