Delta Medix Patient General Information

Cholecystitis is the inflammation of the gallbladder. Cholecystitis can be considered acute or chronic. Acute cholecystitis is nearly always caused by gallstones. Chronic cholecystitis may occur with or without gallstones. Cholelithiasis is the presence or formation of calculi or gallstones in the gallbladder. The gallstones may remain dormant and may be an incidental finding on a radiological exam or may be responsible for digestive disturbances, pain and become symptomatic.
