Delta Medix Patient General Information

Hemorrhoids are veins or vascular structures that are varicose, meaning swollen or dilated, located in or around the anus. Internal hemorrhoids are varicose veins that surround the rectum and, when dilated, prolapsed down from inside the rectum and protrude out of the anus.

External hemorrhoids are varicose veins located under the skin on the outside of the anus. They are sometimes painful and are often accompanied by swelling or irritation. External hemorrhoids are prone to thrombosis, in which the vein ruptures and a clot develops, the hemorrhoid becomes a thrombosed hemorrhoid.
