Pruritis Ani

Pruritis Ani is a common condition of itching around the anal area. It is usually accompanied by an irresistible urge to scratch and is most noticeable after bowel movements and at night. The most common cause is excessive cleaning of the anal area. Moisture from excessive sweating, moist sticky stools, loose stools caused by a high intake of liquids is another possible cause.

Certain beverages, including alcoholic beverages, especially beer, milk, citrus fruit juices and drinks containing caffeine, such as cola, tea, and coffee may be aggravating. Some foods including chocolate, fruits, tomatoes, nuts, and popcorn may also be a problem. Other causes include psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal infections and allergies.
