Sclerotherapy is a popular method for eliminating varicose veins and superficial spider veins utilizing a solution injected directly into the blood vessel using very small, fine needles.

This is an outpatient procedure performed in our office, lasting approximately 30-45 minutes, following an initial consultation at which time your eligibility will be determined. Insurance companies historically do not provide coverage for sclerotherapy when it is performed for cosmetic reasons. However, the policies of each individual insurer vary. It is best to check with your insurer if you have any questions regarding coverage.

You are not considered eligible for sclerotherapy if you are bedridden, breastfeeding or pregnant. Ideally, you should wait at least three months following delivery before you should consider sclerotherapy. Tobacco use is strongly discouraged and may promote blood clot formation or a poor cosmetic result. If you have had a blood clot in the past, your eligibility will be determined on an individual basis.

Varicose and spider veins form over many years. The duration of treatment usually depends upon the degree and extent of your venous disease. You will continue to see improvement for months and up to a year after you complete your treatment.
